order generic Lyrica online As many know, mainly because I mention it every chance I get, I’ve come to have a certain fondness for almost the entire Central Valley section of CA. I’ve written about the top program from the state in Buchanan High, the best wrestler in the state Selma’s Richard Figueroa and many other stories and articles, including a feature on the Red Wave wrestling club.
So when I learned that Selma’s own Jeremy Luchau, owner of 559 Fights, was putting on a special showdown between two the area’s most recognizable “Ricky’s”, I had to get the exclusive story. The tale. How it came about and what we can look forward to seeing.
Who is Team Selma’s Ricky Morales? What about Red Wave’s Ricky Martinez? Out of the club practice rooms where they coach every day, and onto the mat. Under the lights. The battle for valley supremacy. The fate of the universe… Ok, it’s not that serious.
It’s two guys, friends, who after some chiding and ongoing trash talk, decided to settle the debate once and for all. Who is the valley’s top Ricky?
Talking to the men of the moment, “the Ricky’s”, and it was clear, this isn’t just an ordinary exhibition, for the kids, for the community, for the comedy. No. The kids and community, yes. But for the win also.
Team Selma’s Ricky sees the opportunity as one to put the talking aside and settle the ongoing debate on the one place wrestlers know, the mat. “He’s older than me, so we never wrestled coming up. I think because he had more accolades in his career, they expect it to be easy. I just know the quality of our room and I’ll be ready to show the valley what’s up. I’m repping Selma. It’s a family thing!”
For Red Wave’s Ricky Martinez it’s also about family. The Red Wave family that he acknowledges gave him a great coaching opportunity and welcomed him from day one. But also, his actual, Martinez family. “Man, I don’t know if they understand. My mom said she’s going to kick me out of the family if I lose.” While the tone was in obvious jest, they do say there’s a bit of truth to every joke. We’ll see Saturday night if that actually gets put to the test.
The family dynamic expressed by both combatants is not surprising. I’ve mentioned before that the tight-knit nature of the whole central valley area is one to be lauded. it’s why I’m moving there.
How the match came together in the first place is in large part a result of that closeness. While they do represent different youth clubs in the valley, they have become friends. The clubs themselves have a friendly rivalry that is ultimately more collaborative than combative and the sentiments were echoed by both.
“We’d be at national tournaments and we see them and we compete and then we eat and drink. It’s cool. Then someone says we look alike. Then they say he’s uglier than me. Then before you know it, we’re talking about who would beat who. And now we’ll find out. And when we do, we get some extra money for our club, for the kids.” Which Ricky said it? I’ll never tell…
As for the kids, that’s really what this evening and the battle of the Ricky’s comes down. The event’s promoter, Luchau told me, “Any time I can do something to give back, I try to do it. If it’s the tickets for veterans we offer to our events, or the support we can provide to the local youth clubs, that’s what it’s all about. When I heard talk of this Ricky vs Ricky and Selma vs Red Wave, it was a no brainer. We had bring it to the people.” And when asked his thoughts on the match itself, “Oh man, I’m team Selma all day. I don’t know if our Ricky will win, but I’m not even going to pretend to be unbiased here. Let’s go Selma!”
Regardless of where your allegiance lies, TS or RW, it is sure to be a great evening, a fun showcase for two the state’s best clubs, and a chance to earn a little bit more trash talking leverage for one of the them.
Let’s go Ricky!
